Description
My grandfather worked for many years at the blast furnace at Consett Works up until its closure in 1980. It was demolished the year after leaving no trace of what had once consumed the town. My mother always talked about the works, recently telling me stories about the red dust that covered the town, the eerie noise the blast furnace would make and the glow that came from the works at night. This etching was made using old reference photos of the works and the descriptions I had heard of it to try and make these descriptions come alive.
